How Advances in Medical Technology Have Made It Possible for Single Parents to Adopt

Recently, there has been a trend established with many children being raised by a single parent. With the Increasing number of divorces, children can be raised by two single parents in two separate households. These two parents can have completely different parenting styles and find the method used to raise the child by the other parents either too liberal or too restrictive. In our society, single parent families already exist in some forms.

It is also common that one parent is an absentee parent and the other parent is responsible for most, if not all aspects of the child’s life.

Many people get married for the sole purpose of having children and a family. Is Mr. or Mrs. Right out there? Sometimes that person doesn’t exist and often people settle and get married and accept the flaws and baggage of their partner, because time may run out to have children and a family.

Everyone wants the American Dream but many families dissolve and this can cause more trauma to a child regarding relationships and trust as they get older.

Due to advances in technology and laws which are reasonable and flexible, adoption is available to anyone in this country regardless of race, marital status, religion, or even sexual preference.

A single woman can adopt by various means. First she can enter into a contract with a sperm donor who relinquishes all rights and responsibilities to the child. Second, a single woman can be the recipient of an Embryo donated through In-Vitro Fertilization and can have the Embryo implanted in her body; This requires a contractual arrangement between the single woman and the donor couple.

Finally, if the single woman cannot carry a child on her won, the use of a surrogate can be necessary.

A single man cannot carry a child, so he will be required to use either an Egg Donor and a Surrogate or a Donated Embryo and a Surrogate.

An Attorney is essential to prepare all of the necessary contracts in order to make sure that the single parent is the only parent to the child and the Donors or Surrogate have no legal claim to the child.

Why would a person wish to adopt and raise a child as a single parent? No conflict will exist between two parents as to how a child should be raised. The child will receive all of the parent’s attention and love. Many people cannot find the perfect soul mate in our society, but they still wish to have a family. Marriage is no longer a prerequisite to have a family and anyone who is prepared to love and support a child should be given the opportunity to be a parent.
